Intentional vs Incidental Growth

Published Dec 2022

Intentional growth and incidental growth are two different ways we can improve our skills and knowledge.

Intentional growth is a proactive approach which involves setting specific goals and objectives, and implementing strategies and tactics to achieve those goals. This approach to growth is often characterized by careful planning and deliberate decision-making, and it typically involves a clear roadmap or plan for achieving the desired growth.

Incidental growth, on the other hand, is a more reactive approach which involves responding to opportunities and challenges as they arise, rather than planning for them in advance. This approach to growth typically involves taking advantage of opportunities as they present themselves, rather than trying to control or predict the future.

It is important to strike a balance between these - incidental growth offers the largest area for growth (as it occurs naturally as a by-product of work) but if we want to move forward in a specific direction, then intentional growth is required.
